He came from the cruise industry and is returning to it: Bud Darr is leaving the container shipping company MSC.
He was a frequently invited speaker at numerous shipping conferences, including the HANSA Forum. But now Charles “Bud” Darr is leaving the container shipping company MSC, where, as Vice President, he was in charge of Maritime Policy and Government Affairs and represented the company externally.
Darr is returning to the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), which he will lead as its new President and Chief Executive Officer from 3 February next year. He succeeds Kelly Craighead, who is leaving the association.
He will thus remain true to the topic of sustainability, as according to the CLIA, the cruise industry is faced with the question of how it can achieve the climate targets it has set itself.
Darr previously worked for CLIA from 2010 to 2017 as Senior Vice President of Technical and Regulatory Affairs, following a career in the US Navy and the US Coast Guard.
“I am very excited to return to CLIA,” Darr said in a statement. “In the face of dynamic change, the industry is poised to break new ground and raise the bar for innovation and sustainability.”
During Darr’s tenure at MSC, the company took steps toward a net-zero carbon footprint, embraced LNG as a transition fuel and joined the Singapore-based Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD).
