Shipping company Ignazio Messina expands fleet once again

The Genoa-based shipping company Ignazio Messina & C. is adding another container ship to its fleet.

The unit that has now been taken over reportedly has a capacity of 6,300 TEU. The handover took place in the Bay of Singapore. The former “Buxwave” comes from the fleet previously controlled by the Buxtehude-based shipping company NSB.

The freighter, which will sail as the “Jolly Bianco” in future, is a sister ship to the “Jolly Verde“, which was acquired last April, making it the Genoese shipping company’s second largest ship: the “Jolly Bianco” is 283 m long and 40 m wide and will have a crew of 23, including 17 Italians including the captain.

Messina continues to use German shipping companies

The classic post-Panamax, built in 2007 by Daewoo Mangalia in Romania, will initially sail to the Mediterranean. The ship will then be deployed on routes to the Red Sea, the Arabian Gulf, India and Pakistan. According to the shipping company, the new addition is a response to the growing demand for transportation in the Italian market.

Since the entry of MSC, the shipping company, which once specialised in ConRo transports, has completely converted its fleet to container ships and steadily expanded it, primarily with purchases of former German ships. To this end, Messina had previously secured tonnage from the fleet of the North German shipping company H. Schuldt and Marlow Navigation, among others.
