The Japanese shipping company K Line has celebrated the christening of the tanker “Toho Emerald“. The vessel will be operated in future in partnership with Toho LNG Shipping as part of a joint venture.
The vessel was built at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea. Following its scheduled delivery in October 2026, the “Toho Emerald” is to be used for the transport of LNG. This will also include services for Toho Gas, the parent company of Toho LNG Shipping.
The vessel is 290 m long, 45.8 m wide and has a tank capacity of 174,000 m3. Its maximum speed is stated as 19.5 kn. The newbuild is fitted with a ME-GA dual-fuel engine and is primarily designed to run on LNG. According to a statement from K Line, the vessel is said to be characterised by high operational efficiency. “Thanks to the combination of excellent emissions performance and economic efficiency, the vessel is intended to be a state-of-the-art vessel for next-generation LNG transport services,” the shipping company said.
K Line has positioned the LNG tanker business as one of the company’s key growth drivers. Through long-term contracts, the shipping company says it plans to stabilise revenues, meet growing energy demand and drive forward its growth strategy by responding to the diverse needs of its customers. Just recently, the shipping company christened the tanker “Halwan”, which will in future operate for Qatar Energy. A few days ago, the company also placed an order for three new VLCC tankers, which will be built at Nihon Shipyard.
