Port of Los Angeles sees November dip

The Port of Los Angeles handled a total of 782,249 TEU in November. This was 11.5% below the previous year’s figure.

The decline affected both loaded and empty containers. Despite the weaker month, the annual balance remains positive.

Loaded imports reached 406,421 TEU in the month under review, 11.3% below the level of November 2024. Exports also declined: at 113,706 TEU, loaded exports fell by 8.4%. Overall, the throughput of loaded containers fell by 10.7% to 520,127 TEU. Handling of empty containers fell by 13.2% to 262,122 TEU.

With one month left to go, the port has achieved container throughput of around 9.45 million TEU in the 2025 calendar year to date, up 1.8 % on the same period of the previous year. In the current financial year 2025/2026, however, the port recorded a slight decline of 1.2% with just under 4.49 million TEU.

Port boss Gene Seroka was confident despite the current market developments: “Despite all the uncertainties in global trade, we will close 2025 with more than 10 million TEU – well below the three best years in our history.” The entire handling process took place without any delays. “Not a single ship had to wait.”

Seroka added that this was primarily due to the smooth interaction between all parties involved: “Port workers, truck drivers, terminal operators and rail partners keep this complex system running. This reliability is the reason why around 200,000 importers and exporters choose Los Angeles every year.”
