Cosco subsidiary Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) is further expanding its fleet of mega boxships with its eighth 24,188 TEU vessel.

The liner shipping company has taken delivery of the “OOCL Abu Dhabi” from its shipyard in China.[ds_preview] The ship was built by Dalian Cosco KHI Ship Engineering (DACKS) and is part of the fleet modernization programme.

The christening has now also been completed. Han Lina, Vice President of the Supply Chain Management Center of Jiangsu Runergy New Energy Technology Co, gave the newbuilding its name.

Twelve new buildings for OOCL

The “OOCL Abu Dhabi” is the fourth of six 24,188 TEU newbuildings that DACKS is delivering to OOCL. Junguang Xiao, Group Legal Advisor and Director of OOCL, said: “With the continuous delivery of new ships, more and more ships with OOCL’s plum blossom logo are sailing on the sea, marking the continuous upgrading of the Group’s fleet structure.” The aim is to provide better and more environmentally friendly integrated end-to-end logistics services in the future.

A total of twelve ships of this size have been ordered from shipyards in China, with “OOCL Abu Dhabi” being the eighth unit. The ships are to be deployed in OOCL’s Asia-Europe service LL1. The service will include calls at Wilhelmshaven. Hamburg will also be served.
