Hapag-Lloyd serves Red Sea with shuttle service

In view of the security situation, the liner shipping company Hapag-Lloyd wants to continue to avoid the route through the Red Sea. There is now a solution for cargo from and for the region.

Hapag-Lloyd, concerned about its ships, crews and cargo, is switching to the route around the Cape of Good Hope for the time being. “We have updated our schedules to take into account the transit to the Cape of Good Hope at the last port of departure in the region. This allows us to make the most accurate decisions based on the latest information. Please note that this will extend the transit times indicated on our website,” the shipping company said in a message to its customers. But how do you deal with cargo from the Red Sea? [ds_preview]

The Hamburg-based liner shipping company wants to set up a shuttle service for cargo from or for the region. The port of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia will be used for this. “This will enable us to connect the Red Sea market with Europe, North America and Latin America,” says Hapag-Lloyd.

The shuttle service runs via Tangier in Morocco, Damietta in Egypt and Jeddah back to Tangier. In addition, a feeder service has been set up connecting Aqaba in Jordan and the Sudanese port of Port Sudan to Jeddah. Hapag-Lloyd plans to offer the service every ten days.

“We are aware that this will not cover all the cargo from the Red Sea, so we will continue to keep you informed as soon as we have found further solutions,” explains the shipping company.
