Everllence supplies methane engines for car carriers

The propulsion specialist Everllence has announced the world’s first order for the latest generation of dual-fuel methane engines. The engines are intended for a new series of car transporters.

The client is the Norwegian shipping company Global Car Carriers (GCC), which is having a series of four ships built in China. Four 6S60ME-GI Mk10.7 engines have been ordered. These are being manufactured under licence by CSSC Engine in Qingdao, China, and will subsequently be delivered to the China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Nanjing. The four car carriers, each with a capacity of 8,600 CEU, are being built there.

According to Everllence, the ships will be fitted with the latest generation of ME-GI engines, which offer high operational flexibility, high fuel efficiency, low methane slip and the proven reliability of the diesel combustion principle.

The ME-GI concept has now become widely established in the maritime industry, the statement continues. A strong order book and extensive operational experience underpin its position as the preferred dual-fuel solution. For the ME-GI platform alone, more than 1,260 engines with a total output of over 33 GW have been ordered to date.
