Talks between Eurogate and CMA CGM about a possible joint venture in Hamburg have come to nothing.
The two companies made initial contact in the summer. Following MSC’s planned investment in HHLA, another alliance between a terminal operator and a major liner shipping company was in the offing. According to reports, this involved a joint venture to jointly drive forward the so-called western expansion in the Port of Hamburg.
The project envisages two new berths of 450 metres and 600 metres in length in Hamburg-Waltershof in order to be able to handle an annual volume of 2 million TEU there. The project has been planned for years, but legal challenges have been rejected.
However, the two potential partners have not made much progress, reports the industry service Alphaliner. Eurogate and CMA CGM have not been able to agree on a deal, it says.
