The Greek shipping group Dynacom has ordered four more crude oil tankers from Hengli Heavy Industry. This brings the total number of newbuilds ordered by the Greek shipping group from the Chinese shipyard to 20.
According to the shipyard, four of the tanker vessels have already been delivered. The shipyard stated that the vessel’s operational performance had been well received by the market. With this new order, Dynacom is strengthening its existing business relationship with HHI. The Greek shipping company and the shipyard have a long-standing partnership, exemplified by a series of 20 vessels in the VLCC segment. In this market segment, shipowners generally scrutinise the build quality, fuel efficiency, equipment and operational performance of new vessels closely before awarding follow-up orders.
According to its own statements, Hengli builds VLCCs with a deadweight tonnage of 306,000 dwt. The shipyard states that it now has a well-established system for the design, block construction, final assembly and serial delivery of this type of vessel. Together with nine Suezmax tankers and two VLACs, Dynacom’s newbuilding programme with Hengli thus totals 31 vessels. Hengli has not, however, provided any details regarding prices, delivery dates or the propulsion systems of the four newbuilds.
Hengli launches partnership with Italian shipping company
In parallel with the VLCC deal, Hengli, through its Maltese subsidiary Pemont, finalised a new partnership with the Italian shipping company Navigazione Montanarige, founded in 1906, and secured an order for two environmentally friendly LR2 product tankers, each with a deadweight tonnage of 114,,000 dwt. This is Pemont’s first newbuild order with the shipyard in Dalian and represents a significant market breakthrough for Hengli in Southern Europe.
The Chinese shipyard currently has a full order book: By the end of July 2026, Hengli Heavy Industry had secured more than 250 new shipbuilding orders, comprising container ships, bulk carriers, crude oil tankers and biogas tankers, with delivery dates fully booked up until 2030.
