“AIDAperla” heads to France for modernisation

Aida Cruises is extending its “Aida Evolution” modernisation programme to the next class of ships. To this end, the “AIDAperla” will head to the Chantier Naval de Marseille in France in 2027. The refit of the “AIDAprima” will follow a year later.

A French shipyard has been selected to carry out the modernisation of the “AIDAperla ”: a stay at Chantier Naval de Marseille is scheduled for between 2 April and 2 May 2027. This means that this refit contract has been awarded to a shipyard outside the shipping company’s home market in Germany. The “AIDAprima”, built in 2016, is then due to undergo modernisation from 21 April to 21 May 2028.

With these two cruise ships, the Rostock-based cruise line is extending what it describes as the largest modernisation programme in the company’s history to another class of vessel. The announced work primarily concerns the interior fit-out, the redesign of public areas and the expansion of the range of cabins on offer. The company has not yet provided any details regarding the value of the contract or any potential work on the propulsion system and ship’s engineering.

Additional cabins and refurbishment of public areas

The redesign of existing spaces is intended to create additional interior, sea-view and balcony cabins. The shipping company has not specified how many cabins will be added. In the existing cabins, features planned include USB sockets by the beds and new bathroom mirrors with a night-light function. The suites will be given a new colour scheme.

Another key focus is the refurbishment of the dining and lounge areas. On Deck 7, the former Fotowelt will be transformed into the new Art Bar. New additions will include the East Fusion restaurant, a Teppanyaki Asia Grill, as well as additional bars and a Panorama Lounge. The Theatrium will be fitted with new seating and lounge furniture, whilst the Aida Plaza will gain additional seating.

The Spray Bar at the bow will also be refurbished and fitted with an interactive LED video wall. A new access point via the D6 nightclub is intended to allow the area to be used more flexibly for events and groups.

Refurbishments on the leisure decks

Major changes are also planned for the Four Elements leisure area. On the upper level, a new net structure will replace the existing climbing wall. A mini-golf course is being built on Deck 16. The Kids’ Club will be extended to include an outdoor area, whilst the D6 nightclub will also serve as a Teens’ Lounge during the day.

The first voyages following the shipyard stays – each lasting around one month – have already been scheduled: the “AIDAperla” is set to set sail from Mallorca on 2 May 2027 for a ten-day Mediterranean cruise. The “AIDAprima” is scheduled to embark on its first voyage following the refit on 21 May 2028.
