Zhenjiang Tongzhou Propeller expands offering

At SMM 2026, Zhenjiang Tongzhou Propeller will present integrated propulsion energy-saving solutions for both newbuildings and retrofit projects. The focus is on improving propulsion efficiency and reducing fuel consumption through the optimisation of the complete propulsion system rather than individual components.

The company’s approach combines a high-efficiency propeller with energy-saving devices such as ducts and propeller boss cap fins (PBCF). According to Tongzhou, optimising the interaction between the propeller, stern flow and rudder allows rotational energy in the propeller slipstream to be recovered, increasing the overall efficiency of the propulsion system.

Instead of treating propellers and energy-saving devices as separate products, Tongzhou develops an integrated solution tailored to each vessel. The system is optimised according to the hull form, main engine characteristics, operating profile and existing propulsion arrangement to achieve the best possible interaction between all components.

The company’s retrofit programme covers the entire project, from hydrodynamic analysis and propeller optimisation to manufacturing, onboard installation and full-scale sea trials. Model basin testing is also used to compare performance before and after the retrofit, enabling shipowners to assess the efficiency gains achieved by the upgraded propulsion system.

According to Tongzhou, this integrated approach supports practical and commercially viable fuel-saving measures while helping operators reduce emissions and improve vessel performance.

Building on its experience in propeller manufacturing and propulsion retrofits, the company is expanding its portfolio from individual propulsion components to complete propulsion efficiency solutions for the international market.
