Wind sails for “Amadeus Titanium”

Covestro and HGK Shipping have extended their cooperation in European short sea shipping until 2040.

Part of the agreement, the chemical tanker “Amadeus Titanium” will be retrofitted with a wind assisted propulsion  system.

The liquid coaster, operated by HGK subsidiary Amadeus Schiffahrts- und Speditions GmbH, will be equipped with so-called “VentoFoils” from the Dutch technology manufacturer Econowind. The wing-like systems automatically adjust to the wind and are designed to reduce fuel consumption by around 10% and lower CO₂ emissions accordingly.

“The retrofit emphasizes the commitment of all those involved to greater energy efficiency and resource conservation in shipping,” explained Wolfgang Nowak, Managing Director of Amadeus Schiffahrt.

Covestro Head of Logistics Stefan Kashelikar described the project as a “further milestone” in the partnership. “The contract extension underlines our joint commitment to sustainable and efficient logistics.”

The retrofit is scheduled to take place during a planned shipyard visit in September 2025. The 88-meter-long “Amadeus Titanium” has been operating exclusively for Covestro in short-sea traffic since October 2020.
