Wärtsilä divests another maritime business to investor Solix

The Finnish technology group Wärtsilä is divesting its next maritime division – and once again a Swedish investment company has come on board. The sales process is now apparently nearing its end.

The financial investor Solix is taking over the Finns’ “Water & Waste” division, as has now been announced. The division comprises solutions for the entire spectrum of water and waste management at sea. This also includes ballast water treatment and the waste water system.

Subject to regulatory approvals, the Water & Waste transaction is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2026. The sales process thus appears to have come to an end for the time being: “Subsequently, Wärtsilä will have completed the divestment of all business areas of its portfolio business,” the Finns write.

In recent years, Wärtsilä has sold off various business units and subsidiaries, including German operations. The sales of the “Automation and Navigation” ANCS business unit, the “Gas Solutions” segment, the cargo tank measurement business, apropeller foundry in Spain and the German brands Euroatlas, Funa from Emden, Jovyatlas and Elac Nautik from Kiel were announced. The local companies were added to the portfolio at the time of the L-3 takeover.

Most recently, the Water & Waste division operated independently in order to accelerate performance improvements and create value for Wärtsilä through the sale, according to the statement. In 2025, Water & Waste reportedly achieved an annual turnover of €54 million.

Bernd Bertram, Head of Portfolio Business at Wärtsilä, said: “Building on our previous collaboration with Solix, Water & Waste is ideally positioned to further develop and continuously secure value creation for its customers and its highly skilled team.” The Swedish financial investor had already been involved in the sale of ANCS .
