Following a tender, Wallenius Wilhelmsen has been awarded the contract to operate the RoRo terminal in Gothenburg.
Wallenius will take over operations in February 2026 under a 12-year concession agreement. “We are very optimistic that Wallenius Wilhelmsen will be able to further develop the vehicle and RoRo terminal in the Port of Gothenburg,” says Göran Eriksson, CEO of the Port of Gothenburg.
Wallenius Wilhelmsen has extensive experience in terminal operations in several ports worldwide. The operation of the Port of Gothenburg’s vehicle and RoRo terminal will be taken over by a newly established, separate and independent company.
“We look forward to serving the Scandinavian market while supporting our vision of innovative and sustainable growth,” says John Felitto, COO Logistics Services at Wallenius Wilhelmsen.
Wallenius plans to invest €6m in Gothenburg
The Port of Gothenburg is Sweden’s largest vehicle port, and the vehicle and RoRo terminal in question handles the majority of vehicles passing through the port. The terminal is also a multi-purpose terminal, handling machinery for the mining industry, wind turbine components, transformers, house modules and other types of project cargo.
The port has three other vehicle and RoRo terminals operated by Gothenburg Roro Terminal and Stena Line.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s commitment also includes an investment program of almost six million euros to modernise the terminal’s space, buildings and infrastructure to further strengthen the market offering.
“We have seen an overwhelming interest in operating the terminal, which has resulted in several strong bids. We are confident in our choice of Wallenius Wilhelmsen and believe that this decision will bring us one step closer to our overall goal of becoming the most competitive port in the world,” concludes Göran Eriksson.
