As offshore wind projects move further offshore and into more demanding environments, vessel performance and availability are becoming increasingly important. Ulstein supports shipowners and operators throughout the entire vessel lifecycle, from design and construction to upgrades, conversions and aftermarket services.
A recent example is the conversion of the CSOV „Olympic Notos“, demonstrating how existing vessels can be adapted to new operational requirements while extending their service life and capabilities.
At the same time, Ulstein continues to deliver newbuildings, including two series of CSOVs for Bernhard Schulte Offshore and Acta Marine.
A key feature of these vessels is the TWIN X-STERN design, which combines seakeeping with operational efficiency. According to Ulstein, the latest CSOVs are designed to maintain safe walk-to-work operations in significant wave heights of up to 3.0–3.5 m, increasing the number of operational days offshore.
Sea trials have demonstrated stable performance both ahead and stern first. During offshore operations, the vessels are often operated stern first to reduce motion, improving onboard comfort and safety while helping to minimise interruptions to offshore campaigns.
Ulstein’s aftermarket services complement its newbuilding activities with upgrades, digital support and lifecycle optimisation tailored to individual vessels. According to the company, this approach helps both newbuildings and existing vessels meet changing operational and environmental requirements.
