Approximately 140 million cubic metres of liquefied natural gas (LNG) are scheduled for delivery to Ukraine in the coming months via the Polish port of Świnoujście.
An agreement has been signed between the energy companies Orlen and Naftogaz. The gas, sourced from the United States, will be regasified at the LNG terminal in Świnoujście before being transported to Ukraine.
The contract is intended to ensure a continuous supply of gas to the Ukrainian market over the coming months and is expected to play a key role in strengthening the country’s energy security ahead of the winter heating season.
This is the fourth gas supply agreement signed by Orlen and Naftogaz in 2025. The total volume of the previous three contracts amounted to around 300 million cubic metres. In each case, the gas was regasified LNG imported by the Polish company from the United States via either the Świnoujście terminal or the terminal in Klaipėda, Lithuania.
“Naftogaz is diversifying its sources and routes of gas supply. This increases Ukraine’s energy security and resilience amid the ongoing full-scale war with Russia. We are grateful to our Polish partners and greatly value this cooperation. Signing an additional agreement for the supply of American LNG is an important part of our preparations for the upcoming winter heating season and a major step towards ensuring a reliable gas supply for the Ukrainian people,” said Sergii Koretskyi, CEO of Naftogaz of Ukraine.
Orlen active in Ukraine for years
The Orlen Group has been present on the Ukrainian market for more than two decades and has been supplying fuels from its refineries in Poland and Lithuania since 2007. Deliveries have continued uninterrupted, even after the start of Russia’s war of aggression on 24 February 2022.
The first rail shipment of Orlen fuels to Ukraine took place just two days after the invasion. In March 2022, Orlen Lietuva began selling fuel by truck from Lithuanian terminals, followed by rail deliveries via Poland from June onwards.
The regular delivery of petrol, diesel and other fuels played an important role in stabilising the fuel market during this critical phase. As a result, the Orlen Group has become the largest fuel supplier to the Ukrainian market. In addition, bitumen produced by Orlen Unipetrol in the Czech Republic is also being delivered to Ukraine.
