TGE Marine is supporting the transition to alternative marine fuels through its collaboration with Mitsui E&S on an onshore ammonia engine test bench project in Tamano, Japan. The project is intended to support the development of ammonia as a zero-carbon fuel for the maritime industry. Delivery of the Ammonia Fuel Supply System (AFSS) is scheduled for 2028, with commissioning planned for 2029.
Mitsui E&S is currently operating an ammonia engine test bench to support testing of the first full-scale Everllence ammonia engine, which will later be installed on Japan’s first ammonia-fuelled bulk carrier. Building on this, the company has developed a dedicated onshore test bench facility. TGE Marine will supply the AFSS, enabling the handling of ammonia for engine testing.
A distinguishing feature of the project is that the AFSS has been designed as a hybrid system. It is compatible with engine technologies from both Everllence and WinGD, providing flexibility across different engine manufacturers and supporting the wider adoption of ammonia propulsion.
According to TGE Marine, the project is an important reference for the company in the Japanese market and is expected to create opportunities for future ammonia projects. Together, Mitsui E&S and TGE Marine aim to offer integrated solutions combining main engines and fuel supply systems for a range of gaseous fuels.
