The Dutch shipping company Acta Marine has taken delivery of its new Construction Service Operation Vessel (CSOV) “Acta Gemini”.
The special vessel is intended for use in the construction and expansion of offshore wind energy.
The walk-to-work vessel was built at the Turkish Tersan Shipyard in Yalova and is the third newbuild in a series of four. The newbuilding order was preceded by a lengthy search for a financially strong partner to co-own Acta Marine.
After mobilization, the “Acta Gemini” is to go into a long-term charter for the Sofia offshore wind farm on the Dogger Bank in the UK. Based in Grimsby, the vessel will provide offshore accommodation and walk-to-work services for operation and maintenance work at the wind farm on behalf of the German energy supply group RWE.
“The delivery of the ‘Acta Gemini’, combined with a long-term charter commitment from RWE, underlines both the strength of our fleet and the confidence of our customers in our organization and services,” said Acta Marine CEO Rob Boer. With this vessel, the company is building on the already delivered units “Acta Pegasus” and “Acta Hercules” and further strengthening its position in the offshore wind market.
The “Acta Gemini” offers space for up to 88 people. The equipment includes an offshore access system, a helideck and daughter boats. This is intended to enable the flexible and safe transfer of technicians to offshore installations.
According to Acta Marine, the ship is equipped with a methanol-capable dual-fuel main engine. This should enable the fleet to be operated with lower emissions in the future, depending on regulatory and market conditions.
With the “Acta Gemini”, three of the four newbuilds in the series have now been delivered. The sister ships “Acta Pegasus” and “Acta Hercules” are already underway. The fourth unit, “Acta Aquarius”, is expected to follow later this year.
