Sinokor orders four box carriers from HD Hyundai

The South Korean shipping company Sinokor Merchant Marine (SMM) has placed an order with the HD Hyundai shipyard for the construction of four new container ships, each with a capacity of 13,000 TEU. The order volume amounts to 611 million dollars.

According to the parent company HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE), delivery of the scrubber-equipped units is scheduled for the end of June 2028. Two vessels are to be built at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, the other two at HD Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries.

For Sinokor, the order represents a significant leap in its fleet. Until now, the carrier has concentrated on ships with 1,900 to 8,000 TEU. The 13,000 TEU newbuildings will be the largest container ships in the Seoul-based company’s fleet.

Sinokor currently operates 75 container ships with a total capacity of around 141,000 TEU and is also active in the tanker, bulker and LNG sectors.
