The international association of ship managers, InterManager, is calling on the shipping industry to “carefully consider” any activities near the Strait of Hormuz.
In view of the war between the USA, Israel and Iran and the escalation in the Strait of Hormuz, Intermanager Secretary General Kuba Szymanski has issued a statement to the public.
Following an emergency meeting of the International Maritime Organization convened by IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez, Szymanski said: “The recent escalation of security incidents in and around the Strait of Hormuz is deeply concerning for the global shipping community. Seafarers must never be exposed to unnecessary risks while carrying out their work, which is so vital to international trade.”
In light of recent attacks on merchant vessels in the region, he called on ship managers, shipowners and operators to exercise extreme caution and carefully consider whether passage through the Strait of Hormuz is necessary at this time. The safety and welfare of seafarers must be the top priority. InterManager expressed its condolences to the families and colleagues of those affected by the recent incidents.
“We urge ship managers, owners and operators to carefully consider the risks before any transit through the Strait of Hormuz and to avoid the area if possible,” said Szymanski.
