The shipping company Sallaum Lines has set up a new company, Sallaum Logistics. The group’s aim is to be able to offer supply chain services from ports to car dealerships across Europe in future.
Sallaum Lines, a shipping company specialising in RoRo transport, is now expanding its service portfolio to include road transport. Through Sallaum Logistics – based in Lithuania – the Belgian company plans to act as an ‘end-to-end partner’ for manufacturers and dealers in future.
Sallaum Logistics will operate as an independent road logistics company, focusing on the transport of finished vehicles. The company is aimed at car manufacturers, OEMs, dealer groups, fleet operators, shipping lines and logistics partners who require reliable land transport with transparency and professional handling.
Sallaum Logistics is launching with an initial fleet of 50 lorry-trailer combinations and plans to expand its own fleet to 300 lorries by 2029. The company uses modern car transporters which – depending on the vehicle type, route and country-specific traffic regulations – can carry up to ten vehicles. The company is initially commencing operations in key European automotive markets – including Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain, France, the Czech Republic and Poland – and plans to expand further into major European markets with port connections.
“For years, customers have relied on Sallaum Lines to transport vehicles across the oceans reliably, professionally and with care,” said Sami Sallaum, Chairman of Sallaum Lines. “Sallaum Logistics continues this commitment on land, offering automotive partners a logistics service provider based on the same principles of safety, transparency and customer focus. This is the logical continuation of our vehicle logistics – from sea to road.”
According to the company, Sallaum Logistics was established in response to a clear market need: customers in the automotive industry require a partner for onshore vehicle logistics that offers the same quality and the same standards of accountability and communication as are customary in maritime transport.
Rather than operating as a “standard road haulier”, Sallaum Logistics positions itself as a specialised platform for automotive logistics. Its service portfolio comprises comprehensive solutions for the logistics of finished vehicles: these include transport from European factories and inland terminals to ports for worldwide shipment, cross-border transport, fleet distribution, and deliveries from the port to the dealer or distribution centre (and vice versa).
In addition, Sallaum Logistics offers vehicle preparation, handover inspections and storage at selected locations – utilising the existing infrastructure at the Port of Antwerp. Designed to reduce complexity following arrival at the port.
“Sallaum Logistics was founded to make inland vehicle transport simpler, more transparent and more reliable,” said Edvinas Rybelis, CEO of the newly established company. “We are building a road transport logistics company that relies on professional drivers, clear communication, real-time transparency and fleet planning geared towards long-term growth. Our aim is to provide our customers with security and confidence at every stage of inland transport.”
