The port operator PSA Singapore and the car carrier shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) have announced the establishment of a joint venture to build and operate a RoRo terminal in Singapore.
The project is still subject to approval by the authorities. Operations are expected to start in the first half of the year.
Singapore is considered the largest automotive transshipment hub in Southeast Asia and a central hub between Asian production sites and global sales markets. Through the joint venture, PSA and MOL aim to increase the reliability and efficiency of terminal services for MOL ‘s ro-ro traffic while securing long-term terminal capacity to support the growing vehicle transportation business.
As part of the partnership, MOL will contribute its global service network, while PSA will contribute its many years of experience as a terminal operator. Both companies intend to jointly manage the terminal and further deepen their existing cooperation.
Beyond terminal operations, PSA and MOL plan to cooperate more closely in the areas of operational optimization, digital innovation and sustainability. The initiative is in line with PSA’s network strategy and MOL’s “Blue Action 2035” management plan, which aims to expand its market position and achieve sustainable growth.
Nelson Quek, Regional CEO Southeast Asia of PSA International, said the partnership with MOL strengthens Singapore’s role as a central hub of global supply chains and enables seamless connectivity along the automotive supply chain. Jotaro Tamura, Senior Managing Executive Officer of MOL, described the investment as an important building block in MOL’s regional strategy to expand its automotive logistics beyond the pure shipping business.
PSA Singapore operates the world’s largest container transshipment hub in Singapore and handled around 44.5 million TEU in 2025. MOL, based in Tokyo, has a fleet of more than 900 ships and is also active in terminal-related logistics and infrastructure businesses in addition to shipping.
