The MPP shipping company Chipolbrok is about to complete a series of new 62,000-tonne vessels: “Kopernik” has been floated out in China.
“Kopernik” is the eighth of eight vessels of this type ordered by the state-controlled Chinese-Polish joint venture. The 199.9 m long, 32.26 m wide MPP vessel has a deadweight of 62,000 t, a crane capacity of 2 x 150 t SWL and five cargo holds. The lower deck compartments offer space for approx. 75,000 m3 of cargo, while the weather deck, measuring 163 x 30 m, has an area of approx. 5,000 m². With a service speed of 14.4 knots, the ship has a range of 18,000 nm.
The sisters “Tai Xing”, “Yong Xing”, “Herbert”, “Pilecki”, “Yu An”, “Boym” and “Da An” had already been delivered and commissioned by Chengxi Shipyard between 2021 and 2025.
However, Chipolbrok’s newbuilding activities are by no means over yet. There are still two more series in the order book. Firstly, four 38,000-tonne vessels have been ordered. In addition, it was only recently made public that six large MPP ships of 60,800 tdw had been ordered – plus an option for two further units. They will be 199 m long and will each have three 200 t cranes, large cargo holds and a deck thickness of 4.5 t/m2.
The joint venture’s fleet currently comprises 31 vessels with lifting capacities of between 28,000 and 62,000 tons. The carrier’s focus is on traditional breakbulk loads for liner services, but also primarily on components for the wind energy market and bulk transportation.
