Inmarsat Maritime, a Viasat company, reports that orders for its NexusWave service have exceeded 1,000 vessels.
The fully managed maritime connectivity solution was launched six months ago after an extended development and testing phase, and it has since seen steady adoption by shipping operators worldwide.
Early adopters include companies such as “K” Line, Anthony Veder, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Solvang, Sallaum Lines, and Parlevliet & van der Plas Group. These operators are using NexusWave to provide reliable high-speed internet access to crews and enable digital operations on board.
NexusWave integrates multiple connectivity technologies – Global Xpress (GX) Ka-band, low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite, coastal LTE, and resilient L-band – into a single managed service. Its network bonding technology allows vessels to use the combined capacity of all available networks simultaneously, rather than switching between them.
Real-world testing has shown download speeds of up to 340 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 80 Mbps. Network availability on vessels consistently exceeded 99.9%. Even when one network became unavailable or degraded, video call quality remained stable thanks to dynamic traffic routing.
NexusWave improves life on board
For crew members, NexusWave enables stable access to web browsing, streaming, gaming, video and voice calls, messaging, and social media – offering a consistent experience regardless of location. The service includes global coverage, unlimited data, and security features built into the infrastructure.
Ben Palmer, President of Inmarsat Maritime, commented: “Reaching the 1,000-vessel milestone reflects the industry’s ongoing demand for reliable, high-capacity connectivity at sea. NexusWave is designed not just for speed but to support digital operations and improve quality of life on board.”
