New tugs for Multraship

The Dutch tug shipping company Multraship, in which Hamburg-based Fairplay Towage is a stakeholder, is expanding its fleet with new Damen tugs.

This is an ASD Tug 3212, which has now been christened “Multratug 35” in Terneuzen, the home port of Multraship Towage & Salvage. The godmother was Chrétienne Huisman, Head of Human Resources at the shipping company.

Damen and Multraship signed the contract for this tug and a second, identical vessel in June last year. “Our company needs to grow in order to meet additional customer and project requirements. That is why we have invested in additional vessels,” says Managing Director Leendert Muller.

Multraship units have 88 ton bollard pull

Both the “Multratug 35” and its future sister vessel, “Multratug 36,” are 32-metre tugs with an 88-ton bollard pull. They are designed for offshore and coastal towing operations, salvage work, and special projects.

Although built to Damen’s proven design, they have been significantly enhanced with a range of options to meet Multraship’s high standards and requirements. This includes meeting IMO Tier III requirements, which is achieved by incorporating Damen’s NOx Reduction System.

This modular selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system reportedly reduces NOx emissions by 80% compared to IMO Tier II requirements. Damen has also equipped the tug with FiFi 1 fire extinguishing systems and upgraded it for anchor handling and associated offshore activities. Crew accommodation has been improved with additional insulation and rubber lining to provide more comfort.

The “Multratug 36” was delivered in April, is sailing to the Netherlands on her own keel and is expected to arrive in her home port at the beginning of July after a voyage of around 13,500 nm.
