New MPP vessel for Carisbrooke launched

A new MPP ship for the British shipping company Carisbrooke Shipping has been launched in the Netherlands.

“Greta C” was launched transversely at the Royal T shipyard, as is customary at the site. “This launch not only represents a new ship, but also a smarter way of transporting goods. By combining Dutch shipbuilding expertise with a state-of-the-art diesel-electric propulsion system, the Greta C is designed to significantly reduce emissions and fuel consumption without sacrificing performance,” reads a social media post from the shipyard.

Carisbrooke commissioned the ship in 2023 from the shipyard, which was still trading under the name Thecla Bodewes at the time. The ship type, of which further newbuilds have since been ordered, is called the “Labrax 7280dwt”. The propulsion power on board is said to be significantly lower compared to ships with the same load capacity and conventional propulsion. With a length of 118.60 m and a width of 14.30 m, the vessel has a cargo capacity of 329,700 cubic feet.

The shipping company currently operates a fleet of 20 ships with load capacities of between 5,000 and 12,900 tons. Newbuildings have also been ordered in India.
