New CEO for data specialist Oceanly

The Italian software service provider Oceanly has appointed Frederik Lerche-Tornoe, a former Maersk sailor, as its new CEO.

The appointment of Lerche-Tornoe as Chief Executive Officer comes at a time “when Oceanly is accelerating the global expansion of its service offering”, the provider of software solutions for the shipping industry announced.

Oceanly focuses on solutions to improve fleet performance through digital products. The flagship product Oceanly Performance focuses on reporting, emissions monitoring and route planning. This should enable shipowners to improve data quality and reduce workload.

Lerche-Tornoe previously worked as General Manager at the company and was responsible for product development, among other things. “With over 20 years of experience in the shipping and software industry, he is now taking on the role of CEO to lead the company’s next phase of growth and innovation,” Oceanly announced. The new CEO also has some practical experience from on board, including six years as a seaman on tankers and container ships for the Maersk shipping company.

“It is an honor to be appointed CEO at such a pivotal time for the industry,” said Lerche-Tornoe. “Oceanly has built a strong foundation and we are now focused on helping our customers manage the data deluge and turn complex information into actionable insights in real time that improve performance and sustainability.”

Giampiero Soncini, who is widely recognized as a pioneer in maritime digitalization, will reportedly remain closely associated with the company as a strategic advisor. Commenting on the move, he said: “Oceanly is forging strong alliances with leading global players in the field of advanced technologies and AI. I am delighted that Frederik has taken on the role of CEO. There is no one better suited to lead Oceanly into its next chapter.”
