The US cruise line Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has christened its new flagship “Norwegian Luna” (156,300 GT) in Miami.
The ship is the latest addition to the shipping company’s fleet and will be deployed on round trips to the Caribbean and the Bahamas from Miami until April 2027. The itineraries also include calls at Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas and Harvest Caye in Belize.
The naming ceremony took place in Miami with more than 2,000 guests. The ship’s godmother is the artist Elle, who also designed the hull painting entitled “La Luna”. Traditionally, the ship was officially launched during the ceremony by breaking a bottle on the hull.
The “Norwegian Luna” is 322 meters long and designed for 3,565 guests. The ship was built by the Italian shipyard Fincantieri in Marghera/Monfalcone and belongs to the “Prima” class.
According to the shipping company, the new ship has various leisure and entertainment options for different target groups. These include a combination of roller coaster and water slide, a digital sports area, play zones and other offers for families, children and adults.
New features on board include an outdoor area with fairground games, a multi-storey climbing and obstacle course and additional leisure areas on the upper decks. The entertainment program includes several music and show formats. There is also a range of events specially tailored to children.
In terms of accommodation, the ship offers various cabin categories ranging from single rooms to suites. There is also an exclusive suite area as well as a total of 17 dining options and 18 bars and lounges.
After the first season in Miami, the “Norwegian Luna” will be deployed on four- and seven-day Bermuda cruises from New York from April 2027. These cruises are planned until October 2027.
