MSC and CMA CGM united in Morocco

CMA CGM and MSC are joining forces in Africa. Following the French company, the Aponte company is also getting involved in a terminal project in Morocco.

The container shipping company CMA CGM had already acquired a 50% stake from the port company Marsa Maroc Port in October last year – now MSC is following suit.

The terminal division of the MSC Group, Terminal Investment Limited (TiL), has signed a contract that gives the Swiss company a 50% stake, less one share, in the container terminal in Nador West Med.

The terminal is located in one of the fastest growing container ports in Africa, in north-eastern Morocco. When fully equipped, the targeted capacity is 1.2 million TEU.

The largest and most important port in the North African country, which now has four container terminals, is Tangier Med on the Mediterranean. Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk, among others, are involved there. Morocco plans to build a second container hub on the western Mediterranean in Nador, around 250 km from Tangier.
