The “data butlers” at Alfred Maritime intend to bundle forces with the US classification society American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) on solutions for fleet performance and safety for cruise ships.
ABS and the start-up Alfred Maritime, which was founded in 2019 under the umbrella of Meyer Werft, signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the Seatrade Cruise Global trade fair. The aim is to “develop technical projects that benefit cruise companies, ships, crews and passengers”, according to a statement.
The memorandum of understanding is intended to provide the framework for cooperation between the two organizations in three key areas: Fleet Performance and Health Monitoring, Maintenance Optimization and Safety and Emergency Systems.
Alfred Maritime will contribute its know-how in fleet performance management, while ABS will provide expertise in the areas of classification and safety. By aligning digital insights with classification-based processes, both organizations aim to reduce operational redundancies and optimize regulatory and maintenance activities. At the same time, the safety framework will be strengthened to ensure more reliable cruise operations.
