MAN Engines presents new D3872 V12 engine at SMM 2026

MAN Engines will present an expanded portfolio for professional maritime applications at SMM 2026, focusing on the workboat sector. The centrepiece of the exhibition will be the new 30-litre MAN D3872 V12 engine, which will be shown for the first time in versions for onboard gensets, diesel-electric propulsion systems and heavy-duty applications. The display will be complemented by a modular exhaust gas aftertreatment system and a MAN Genuine remanufactured engine.

With the D3872, MAN Engines is expanding its 30-litre engine range for applications requiring high continuous output, reliability and flexible integration. For onboard power generation, the engine is available with outputs of 800, 840 and 960 kW and can be supplied for IMO Tier II, IMO Tier III or EU Stage V, depending on emission requirements. For heavy-duty applications, outputs of 735 and 920 kW are available.

Based on the established V12 platform, the D3872 is designed for continuous operation and combines compact dimensions with high power density. The engine platform also covers light- and medium-duty applications, enabling MAN Engines to offer solutions for onboard power generation, diesel-electric propulsion and main propulsion using a common engine platform.

Another focus at SMM will be the company’s modular exhaust gas aftertreatment system, combining a diesel particulate filter with SCR technology. Developed as a fully integrated and certified package together with the engine and control system, it is designed to meet EU Stage V requirements in both generator and heavy-duty applications.

MAN Engines will also showcase a MAN Genuine remanufactured engine, highlighting its factory remanufacturing programme. Marine engines are rebuilt according to standardised processes and restored to the same quality standards as new engines. According to MAN Engines, remanufacturing a MAN D2842 engine can reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 72% compared with manufacturing a new engine while also reducing material consumption through component reuse.

A MAN D3872 onboard genset for power generation will also be displayed by Lindenberg-Anlagen at the neighbouring stand.
