The 199 m long and 32 m wide car carrier “Alliance Fairfax”, which belongs to Maersk subsidiary Farrell Lines, has left the Persian Gulf via the Strait of Hormuz. This was announced by the Danish shipping company Maersk. The US-flagged merchant ship was accompanied and protected by the US military during its passage through the strait.
“The transit went without incident and all crew members are safe and sound,” the Danish company said in a statement. The “Alliance Fairfax” had reportedly been moored in the Persian Gulf since the beginning of the Iran war due to security concerns.
The passage took place as part of the US mission “Project Freedom”, with which the US armed forces claim to want to secure commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Previously, two US destroyers had sailed through the strait into the Persian Gulf. Centcom, the US regional command responsible for the Middle East and the Gulf region, stated that two US-flagged merchant ships had successfully completed the passage.
Tehran, on the other hand, gave contradictory accounts. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared that it had fired missiles at a US warship. Washington rejected this and announced that it had destroyed at least six Iranian speedboats in the course of the action.
