Things are moving at a rapid pace at Lürssen: with the ‘Nixie’, the shipyard has already delivered its sixth yacht this year. It is already a record year for the Bremen-based yacht builders.
The 102.4 m-long “Nixie” was previously known by the project name “Project Jassj”. Following her delivery, she has set sail on her maiden voyage. The yacht will make her world debut in September at the Monaco Yacht Show.
According to Lürssen, the “Nixie”, designed by RWD, is characterised by a flowing, organic design language. The exterior lines are characterised by “gentle wave-like forms, deep contours and generous convex surfaces that catch the light in such a way that the superstructure appears to blend almost seamlessly with its surroundings. “The hull and superstructure are painted in a specially developed warm shade of grey that shimmers depending on the angle of the light and creates a subtle mother-of-pearl effect,” says the shipyard, describing the new build.
Elaborate glazing
The glazing has also been meticulously designed. Each pane has a unique shape and a colour gradient, causing the transitions between glass and steel to appear almost blurred. This is intended to give the yacht a light and open appearance despite its size. As with all Lürssen yachts, the construction and naval architecture were developed entirely in-house.
“Working with RWD was a fantastic experience,” says Tanja Peters, project manager at Lürssen. “The project required close coordination between design, engineering and procurement. The team mastered every challenge with clarity, creativity and a strong focus on practical solutions.”
Pool connects yacht and sea
One of the most striking features is a six-metre-wide, partially cantilevered glass pool at the stern of the main deck. It was conceived not as a standalone feature but as an architectural design element, and extends beyond the bathing platform, creating a special connection between the yacht and the sea. The pool features a privacy screen and an adjustable water level, making it easily accessible for guests of all ages.
Directly below the pool is a beach club with a fitness area, which occupies a large part of the lower deck. In addition to a gym, this also includes a cold chamber. Four large side terraces, flush with the deck, and the stern hatch create a seamless transition between the interior and exterior spaces, expanding the usable area to a total of 270 m². This is one of the largest beach clubs ever fitted to a Lürssen yacht. According to Lürssen, the design is characterised by natural stone, high-quality woods and bespoke furniture and furnishings selected by RWD from around the world.
Quiet, low-vibration propulsion
The “Nixie” is powered by a diesel-electric propulsion system, supplemented by a modern energy storage system. This is designed to enable efficient operation across a wide range of different sailing profiles, whilst enhancing on-board comfort through low noise and vibration levels.
With spacious communal areas and a very private owner’s suite, the “Nixie” is designed for long voyages and prestigious stays, according to Lürssen. The yacht will be offered for charter through Edmiston in future.
