Jens-Ole Krenzien returns to the shipping industry

Jens-Ole Krenzien worked for the shipping company Maersk for over 25 years before retiring from the industry over a year ago.

As he has now announced via Linkedin, he is starting a new job on April 1 – again with a major shipping company.

The 49-year-old was most recently head of the Northern Europe region at Maersk, where he began his training as a shipping clerk 26 years ago. He is now starting his career in the same position at the French shipping company CMA CGM, the No. 3 in global container shipping after Maersk. In future, Krenzien will act as “Vice President & Regional Managing Director” for 18 of the company’s country organizations. According to his own statement, he has used the past 15 months for a family break.

The Danish shipping company Maersk was the undisputed number one in global liner shipping for a long time, but had to vacate its position three years ago. With a capacity of 6.42 million TEU, the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) led by Gianluigi Aponte is a good 1.8 million TEU ahead of the Danes. CMA CGM could also soon overtake the former market leader: Although the French shipping company is still around 660,000 containers behind Maersk with 3.87 million TEU, according to the industry service Alphaliner it has a further 1.54 million TEU in its order book – and according to this calculation will secure second place.
