JASCO presents acoustic signature management solutions

JASCO Applied Sciences (Europe) provides consultancy and measurement services in the fields of ship acoustics and underwater acoustics. Based in Kiel, the company brings together naval architects, scientists, biologists and technicians to help reduce noise and vibration on board, minimise underwater radiated noise and lessen the impact of anthropogenic noise on marine life.

The combination of expertise in ship acoustics and underwater acoustics is becoming increasingly relevant as demand for underwater radiated noise control grows. According to JASCO, a significant share of this demand comes from the defence sector. Over the past five years, the subsea domain has gained greater attention among NATO states, making underwater noise signature control for surface and subsurface vessels an increasingly important capability. Acoustic surveillance systems have also become more relevant for protecting critical maritime infrastructure.

JASCO’s experience with underwater listening devices for both military applications and marine mammal detection enables the company to provide measurement and consultancy services based on technologies already proven in operational projects.

Growing interest in underwater noise control is also being driven by environmental regulation. While EU member states are already monitoring underwater radiated noise from shipping, the IMO is discussing the introduction of mandatory underwater noise limits for vessels. JASCO ShipConsult supports shipping companies and shipyards in assessing and reducing their underwater noise footprint with the aim of minimising environmental impact.
