Leer-based shipping company Hartmann has sold the ship management business of its Cypriot subsidiary Intership Navigation. The new owner, following a management buy-out, is long-time CEO Dieter Rohdenburg.

The deal includes a majority stake in Intership Navigation and its subsidiaries Donnelly Tanker Management and Hartmann Crew Philippines. The Hartmann owned fleet is not included.

Intership Navigation, founded in 1988 by Alfred Hartmann in Limassol, currently has 60 vessels under technical management and crew management for a further 100 vessels.

Hartmann to strengthen German operations

The German shipping group will maintain its presence on the island as a shipowner and commercial manager, focusing mainly on bulk carriers. However, it also intends to strengthen its gas carrier presence in Germany. Activities in the gas tanker segment will be run from Germany and will be further expanded, according to the statement.

The »Gaschem Europe«, one of a series of three innovative and cost-efficient 40,000 cubic metre dual-fuel LPG tankers, was added to the fleet in December. The vessels are being built by Jiangsu Yangzi-Mitsui Shipbuilding in China and are reportedly capable of carrying propane, butane and ammonia.

In addition, the shipping company led by Niels Hartmann has also ordered six LNG-powered container vessels, with 3,500 TEU each, which are being developed and built on behalf of Seaboard Marine. Furthermore, another two LNG container feeder vessels with 1,400 TEU and six smaller LEG tankers are being built at Chinese shipyards. All units wall expected to be delivered over the next 2 years.

Hartmann Schiffahrt’s entire fleet in Leer comprises 48 vessels worth around $1.2bn, including 21 gas tankers, 17 bulk carriers, eight MPP vessels and two container ships. Niels Hartmann recently also appeared as in investor for the offshore wind market via an investment vehicle set up jointly with Atef Abou Merhi – Pelagic Partners.
