Good prospects for Ernst Russ

The Ernst Russ shipping company expects to generate revenue of almost € 160 million in the 2025 financial year. In the long term, the Hamburg-based company plans to build up a sustainable portfolio in various segments.

Based on preliminary, unaudited figures, Ernst Russ AG expects revenue of around € 158 million in the 2025 financial year, with expected EBIT of € 96 million. The forecast for the past financial year has thus been confirmed. Cash and cash equivalents amounted to around € 114 million as at the reporting date. These are preliminary figures; the audited business figures are to be presented on March 25.

At the same time, the shipping company published a strategy update in which it confirmed the company’s existing priorities. Ernst Russ is primarily pursuing the goal of a profitable, sustainable portfolio in various shipping segments and the long-term employment of the fleet. At the same time, a high level of technical availability and transparency is to be ensured as a prerequisite for access to the capital market.

“As part of the strategic further development of the fleet, two multipurpose ships were acquired at the end of February 2026, which were chartered out on good long-term terms,” the shipping company announced. “We have also succeeded in agreeing long-term employment until the second quarter of 2033 for the largest ship in the fleet, the MV Rome Express.”

Together with recent charter agreements, the average charter term of the ships at the end of 2025 is around 26 months, with a charter backlog of € 449 million. In the 2025 financial year, the Ernst Russ Group’s fleet generated average charter revenues of USD 18,135 per day with an employment rate of 97.7%.

The shipping company, whose largest shareholder is the Peter Döhle shipping group, invested in newbuilds last September for the first time in decades: The fleet of the Elbfeeder joint venture, operated together with Eimskip, is to grow by two feeder ships, which are to be built at the China Merchants Jinling shipyard and are expected to be delivered in 2028. Last fall, Ernst Russ also expanded its second-hand tonnage with six container ships.
