The Norwegian breakbulk carrier G2 Ocean has taken delivery of and christened three newbuildings from a series of 82,300-tonne vessels. The fleet modernization will run until 2029.
A few days ago, “Star Nordkapp”, “Star Narvik” and “Star Naga” were given their names at the CSSC shipyard Huangpu Wenchong Longxue in Nansha. For the carrier G2 Ocean, a joint venture between the shipping companies Gearbulk and Grieg Star, these are the “largest and most energy-efficient new additions to the fleet and an important step in our long-term fleet renewal program”, according to a social media post.
G2 Ocean will receive a total of ten of the 82,300 tdw ships by 2029, ordered by majority owner Gearbulk. They are described as “conversion ready” – meaning they will be able to use ammonia or methanol as fuel. The carrier describes itself as “the world’s largest shipping operator in the open-hatch segment”. There are around 120 ships in the G2 Ocean pool.
