A new wind is blowing at Flensburger Shipyard. Just at the beginning of this week, the company celebrated the start of construction of its first new building under the new owner – the Heinrich Rönner Group – and is now announcing the expansion of its management team.
Alongside Thorsten Rönner, shareholder of the Heinrich Rönner Group and Managing Director of Flensburger Shipyard, the company welcomes a new Managing Director to the management team: Frank Mallon.
After holding positions at Blohm+Voss and TKMS, Frank Mallon first took over the management of Lürssen Krögerwerft and has been responsible for the project management of the F126 frigate program at Damen Naval since 2023.
“With fresh impetus, strategic expertise and a clear vision for the future, we are strengthening our management team with an experienced manager,” says the Flensburg-based shipyard.
Together, they want to continue the successful development of Flensburger Shipyard, open up new market opportunities and sustainably expand its position as a “high-performance partner” in international shipbuilding. The shipyard is looking forward to the cooperation and the next joint steps.
750 ships made in Flensburg
More than 750 ships have been designed and built at the Flensburg shipyard since it was founded in 1872. These include complex projects such as submersible heavy-lift carriers, seismic vessels, well intervention vessels, RoRo ferries and ships for strategic naval support.
The shipyard has been part of the Heinrich Rönner Group since 2025 and has been trading as Flensburger Shipyard – formerly Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG).
On February 16, the shipyard celebrated the start of construction for its first new build: a research vessel for the German Aerospace Center (DLR). The hull of the ship is being built under subcontract to its sister company Lloyd Werft in Flensburg.
The approximately 300 Flensburg shipyard employees are currently working on the completion of the RoRo ferry “SeaRoad I”. In addition, work on new MEKO frigates for the German navy under subcontract to TKMS at the Flensburg shipyard is due to start soon.
