The cruise line Princess Cruises is expanding its fleet with three more ships in the “Voyager” class. They are being built by the Italian shipbuilding company Fincantieri.
The ships will be built at the shipyard in Monfalcone, with planned delivery dates of 2035, 2038 and 2039. Fincantieri stated the value of the contract as “very high”, suggesting a volume of $2 billion or more. Both partners signed the contract at Seatrade Cruise Global, which is currently taking place in Miami.
Each “Voyager” class cruise ship will be 180,000 GT and accommodate 4,700 passengers. The primary fuel will be LNG, which Fincantieri says is the “most advanced and best fuel technology available”, enabling an immediate reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and significantly reducing air pollution compared to other common conventional marine fuels.
“We are pleased to announce this new agreement with Princess Cruises, which further strengthens our long-standing partnership,” said Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and Managing Director of Fincantieri. “These new orders ensure a solid workload for our shipyards, in particular Monfalcone, until 2039 and support the optimal development of our cruise business in line with our 2026-2030 industry plan. With the new Voyager Class ships, we are further expanding our expertise in sustainable next-generation shipbuilding, supporting Princess Cruises on its growth path and confirming our role as a reliable partner for the further development of the cruise industry.”
“The Voyager Class will delight our loyal guests as well as attract the next generation of Princess guests. We have conducted extensive customer and travel agent research to find the right balance between evolving our proven success models and introducing new concepts and partnerships based on the needs of our current and future guests,” said Gus Antorcha, President of Princess Cruises. “From exceptional dining and inviting pool areas to world-class entertainment and beautifully redesigned spaces throughout the ship, we are leaving no area untouched to continually evolve the Princess experience.”
This order continues the line’s partnership with the company. Over the past 35 years, Fincantieri has built a total of 21 ships for Princess Cruises. Most recently, the Italians delivered two “Sphere” class ships for Princess Cruises, which were also built in Monfalcone: the “Sun Princess” (2024) and the “Star Princess” (2025). Both are the largest Italian cruise ships to date: At 178,000 GT, they offer space for around 4,300 passengers.
