The Jiangnan shipyard, a subsidiary of the China Shipbuilding Group, has delivered a second new ethane tanker, the “Gas Huanghe”.
The VLEC (Very Large Ethane Carrier) has a volume of 99,000m3 and was built for Wanhua, one of the largest chemical companies in the world.
Jiangnan wants to set new standards
The delivery of the ship, which was independently developed and designed by Jiangnan, took place on 16 July. According to the shipyard, the new ship type is characterised by “leading design and advanced technology”. High efficiency and energy-saving measures will set standards for environmental protection. The ships are also characterised by a comfortable environment for the crew and intelligent management.
The “Gas Huanghe” is 230 meters long, 36.6 meters wide and 22.5 meters high. It has an ABS classification and is said to be suitable for the transportation of ethane, ethylene and various liquefied gases. According to the shipyard, the vessel is “tailor-made” for the long-distance transportation of ethane. For example, it consumes little fuel, has a low boil-off rate and only low maintenance costs. However, Jiangnan did not provide any precise information on efficiency.
The shipyard’s order book is still full. Jiangnan is currently building LNG tankers for the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company(Adnoc), and Seaspan has also ordered new ships after a break of several years.
