Fednav and V6 launch partnership for transatlantic services

The bulk and breakbulk carrier Fednav, which also regularly calls at German ports, is initiating a long-term partnership for bulk imports to Canada via the Great Lakes.

The Canadian-based shipping company Fednav has signed a letter of intent with the Canadian raw materials company V6 Agronomy. It is intended to form the basis for a “long-term collaboration to support the transportation of phosphate to the Canadian Great Lakes”, as Fednav announced in a statement.

In addition to its bulk activities, the shipping company is also known for its breakbulk shipments. Fednav operates a fleet of so-called “laker” vessels, designed for the dimensions of the North American Great Lakes waterway system, as well as bulkers in the Handysize, Supramax and Ultramax classes – a total of around 130 vessels, half of which are owned by Fednav. Project, breakbulk and MPP cargoes are also transported via the Fednav Atlantic Lakes Line (FALLine) segment. German ports, such as Hamburg (via the C.Steinweg terminal) and Bremen, are also frequently called at. In recent years, investments have also been made in modernizing the fleet and newbuildings have been put into service.

Under the agreement with V6, Fednav will now provide transportation services for phosphate cargoes from Europe and North Africa to the port of Johnstown, Ontario, supporting V6’s supply chain and downstream agricultural activities. “This agreement underscores our shared commitment to building resilient and reliable supply chains to support Canadian agriculture,” said Frank Mortensen, Senior Vice President Commercial at Fednav. “We are pleased to be working with V6 Agronomy on this important project and look forward to leveraging our experience in Great Lakes shipping to support their growth.”

V6 Agronomy says it sees the partnership as an important component of its logistics strategy. “This collaboration with Fednav provides us with a strong and experienced shipping partner for our expansion,” said CEO Ryan Brophy. “Together, we are focused on ensuring a reliable product supply to the Great Lakes region.”
