Wallenius Wilhelmsen closes a record year

Things are looking up for the RoRo shipping company Wallenius Wilhelmsen: after an already good previous year, the Norwegians also generated a significant plus in 2024.

Adjusted EBITDA amounted to $ 452 million in the last quarter, and Wallenius paid record-high dividends for the second half of 2024. “The company is in a solid position,” said Lasse Kristoffersen, President and CEO. “We expect 2025 to be another strong year for Wallenius Wilhelmsen.”

Overall, the annual result is almost $100 million above 2023: Adjusted EBITDA for 2024 totals $1.901 billion (net $1.065 billion), compared to $1.807 billion (net $967 billion) in the previous year. This also benefits shareholders: a dividend of $ 1.24 per share was approved, which corresponds to a total payout of $ 524 million – the highest in the company’s history, according to a statement from Wallenius.

“The distribution for the second half of the year corresponds to a payout of approximately 95 percent of the net profit for the second half of the year,” says Kristoffersen. Wallenius Wilhelmsen intends to continue to pay high dividends, including extraordinary payments when the financial situation allows. The current dividend policy was introduced in 2024. The dividend, which is linked to 2024 earnings, totals $1.85 per share.

Wallenius CEO: “We are well positioned”

“The general trading and market uncertainty has increased recently, but we are well positioned to weather it,” Kristoffersen continued. “Thanks to the dedication and hard work of the team, we have improved performance on all key parameters in 2024, including a continuous reduction in emissions compared to the previous year. With a solid financial position, an extensive order backlog and strong partnerships, we are well positioned for 2025 and expect it to be another strong year.”

By the end of the year, the Norwegian company had already achieved major successes. For example, Wallenius Wilhelmsen secured a contract worth USD 580 million and ordered several newbuilds to expand its fleet.
