With Tailwind Shipping Lines, the Lidl Group has its own shipping company. But the rail logistics division Tailwind Intermodal is now also being expanded.
As a neutral train operator, Tailwind Intermodal has been connecting the Adriatic port in Koper, Slovenia, with the Cargo Terminal Graz and from there with Eastern and South-Eastern Europe for around 100 days. The “Panther Shuttle Service” was only launched in September of this year.
Now the frequency is being increased. With the timetable change on 15 December, the Lidl subsidiary is expanding the connections to a regular ten to twelve weekly round trips between the hub in Styria and the Adriatic.
Freight is forwarded to Enns in Upper Austria and to the Polish cities of Zduńska Wola and Poznań via high-frequency connecting transports. A further connection to Upper Austria is planned in the short term.
More departures from Tailwind Intermodal
“From the timetable change, we will be offering our customers up to two daily departures to Koper. This will ensure maximum flexibility for our customers,” says Tailwind Intermodal Managing Director Christian Steindl.
On its train connections, Tailwind Intermodal primarily transports import products to Europe with a high value and tight delivery deadlines. Exports to Asia include raw materials for industry, such as parts for mechanical engineering as well as wood, fibres and paper.
Tailwind Intermodal is a sister company of Tailwind Shipping Lines. The shipping company transports non-food goods from Asia to Europe with its own “Panda” liner service, calling at the Mediterranean ports of Barcelona and Koper. There is also the additional feeder service “Dolphin” from Barcelona to Mooerdijk and a feeder service from Bangladesh to Colombo (Sri Lanka), where the goods are transhipped.
