The CEO of RWE Generation SE, Roger Miesen (59), has decided to end his career at RWE at the end of March.
According to reports, he intends to retire to private life. Born in the Netherlands, he has been with RWE since 2009. Nikolaus Valerius (53) is to become the new CEO of RWE Generation[ds_preview].
Valerius has been a member of the Executive Board of RWE Generation as Chief Operating Officer (COO) since June last year. From 2017 to 2023, Valerius was a member of the Executive Board of RWE Power, where he was responsible for the Nuclear Energy division. Prior to this, he held various management positions at RWE, including divisional manager for all of the company’s gas and hard coal/biomass power plants. Valerius has been working for RWE since 1995.
Tabak takes over COO position at RWE
Valerius’ previous role as Chief Operating Officer (COO) will be taken over by Marinus Tabak (40), also with effect from April 1, 2024. The Dutchman has held a leading position at RWE for many years. Among other things, he was Head of the RWE power plant in Eemshaven in the Netherlands from 2017 to 2021. Since 2021, he has been driving new standards across technologies and departments as Director Central Asset Management at RWE Generation.

As a proven energy expert, Roger Miesen has managed the gas, hard coal/biomass and hydropower plants over the years, as well as being responsible for nuclear energy. In 2018, he took over as Chairman of the Executive Board of RWE Generation. In recent years, he has systematically prepared RWE Generation’s flexible international power plant portfolio to become climate-neutral step by step. RWE Generation is already using biomass as a fuel in its former hard coal plants. RWE Generation has been driving forward the RWE Group’s hydrogen activities since 2021. Battery storage, hydropower, biomass and gas-fired power plants, which will also be able to use hydrogen in the future, complement the portfolio.
After the Personnel Committee of RWE Generation has already decided on the personnel changes at the top of the company, the Supervisory Board still has to give its approval at the end of February, the energy group announced.
