The classification society RINA has a new chief executive: Paolo Moretti, previously head of the Shipping and Certification divisions, is taking over the role of Group CEO from Carlo Luzzatto.
The Board of Directors of the Italian classification society appointed Moretti as Group Chief Executive Officer at a meeting. He thus succeeds Carlo Luzzatto, who had served as CEO of Rina since December 2023. Furthermore, the Board of Directors resolved that Ugo Salerno will remain in his role as Executive Chairman. He is responsible for communications and institutional relations.
“This change in leadership marks a further step in RINA’s development and is in line with the growth strategy agreed jointly with the shareholders – Registro Italiano Navale and Fondo Italiano d’Investimento,” the group announced. The Board of Directors now comprises the following members: Barbara Caputo, Marco Cecconi, Nazareno Cerni, Simonetta Di Pippo, Guido Figliola, Roberto Martinoli, Paolo Moretti, Paolo Pierantoni and Ugo Salerno.
Moretti, a qualified marine engineer, joined RINA in 1997. Throughout his career, he has held positions of increasing responsibility both in Italy and internationally, with a consistent focus on strategic and commercial development. Within the Group, he headed various business units and held senior management positions, including General Manager Marine, Executive Vice President Marine Strategic Development and Chief Commercial Officer.
From 2020 to 2026, he served as Chief Executive Officer of the Rina Services division. His successor as CEO, Giosuè Vezzuto, will take over from Paolo Moretti as Chief Executive Officer of RINA Services.

Moretti himself explained: “I have spent the majority of my professional career at Rina and have seen first-hand just how competent our staff are and what capacity the company has to evolve and anticipate change. I am taking on this new responsibility with great enthusiasm and a clear understanding of the commitment it entails. Our challenge is to continue translating our strategic objectives into tangible results, to streamline our operational processes, and to invest in the development of more advanced and increasingly digital services.”
Paolo d’Amico, Chairman of the Registro Italiano Navale, described Moretti’s appointment as the start of a new chapter at Rina. “We will continue to support the group and its management team – with full confidence in those entrusted with its leadership,” he said. “Paolo Moretti’s extensive experience at RINA provides a strong foundation for overcoming the challenges ahead and making the most of the opportunities that arise.”
