New President for Aroya Cruises

Sture Myrmell is the new President of the cruise line Aroya Cruises. He brings more than 30 years of experience in the industry.

Aroya Cruises, a brand of Saudi Arabian state-owned Cruise Saudi, announced today that Myrmell will assume the position of President. He has over 30 years of leadership experience in the global cruise and tourism industry. His previous roles include Australian travel company Journey Beyond, where he served as COO since 2024, and nearly 12 years in several senior roles at Carnival Australia. In the 2000s, he worked for Princess Cruises and Cunard.

He will now continue to drive the “unique Arabian guest experience” at Aroya while meeting high international cruise standards, the shipping company announced on Linkedin.

“Sture Myrmell has exceptional international cruise experience and an impressive track record in leadership positions with some of the industry’s most prestigious brands,” said Lars Clasen, CEO of Cruise Saudi. “His expertise in operations, business strategy and market development will play an important role as we continue to expand Aroya Cruises’ offering and strengthen Saudi Arabia’s position in the global cruise sector. I look forward to working with Sture Myrmell to further drive the growth of Aroya Cruises and cement its position as the premier Arabian cruise line.”

Aroya Cruises operates the cruise ship “Aroya”, which was built in 2017 at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg. At the time, the ship was still called “World Dream” and was commissioned by the now insolvent company Dream Cruises. With dimensions of around 150,000 GT, the ship is 335 m long and can accommodate around 3,400 passengers. The ship will primarily be used in the Persian Gulf. However, due to the current situation in Iran, Aroya Cruises has announced that the summer season of the “Aroya” will be suspended.
