The Dutch shipping company Acta Marine has christened the specialised offshore vessel “Acta Hercules” in IJmuiden. The newbuild is already in long-term service for Vestas and is one of a series of four CSOVs.
Marina van Oord performed the christening in the presence of clients, business partners and staff. The “Acta Hercules” was delivered at the start of the year as the second vessel in a programme comprising four new-build Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (CSOVs). It is supporting Vestas’ offshore wind operations under a long-term charter agreement.
“Although the ‘Acta Hercules’ is already successfully operating on behalf of our client Vestas, the christening provides an opportunity to recognise the many people, partners and organisations that contributed to its development, construction and delivery,” said Acta Marine CEO Rob Boer. The vessel expands the company’s ability to support customers in the offshore wind market.
The “Acta Hercules” is fitted with methanol dual-fuel engines and a battery storage system. With this equipment, Acta Marine aims to enable lower-emission operations and improve the efficiency of its fleet.
Fourth vessel to follow later this year
Following the “Acta Pegasus”, the “Acta Hercules” and the most recently delivered “Acta Gemini”, the company is expecting the “Acta Aquarius” later this year. It will mark the completion of the new-build series.
Upon its delivery, Acta Marine’s fleet will comprise seven specialised walk-to-work and offshore construction support vessels. The vessels are designed to support clients throughout the various phases of offshore energy projects across Europe.
