ZF highlights hybrid drives and digital control systems

Under the motto “Together in Every Water”, ZF will present its latest propulsion technologies and system solutions at SMM 2026. The company will showcase a portfolio ranging from conventional driveline technology to hybrid and fully electric propulsion systems, with a focus on integrated solutions for modern vessel designs.

A highlight will be the new ZF 9200 A/V PTI transmission, the latest addition to the ZF 9000 series. According to ZF, it delivers up to 3,903 kW in the main drive and around 700 kW via the integrated PTI, enabling both conventional and hybrid operation. Its modular design, compact aluminium housing and optional features such as PTOs and a shaft brake allow adaptation to different vessel types.

ZF will also present the new AT 110 azimuth thruster, the largest the company has developed to date. Designed for applications such as tugboats and offshore support vessels, it supports engine outputs of up to 2,944 kW and offers bollard pull of around 100 tonnes.

Another focus is on digital and system solutions. These include the new AutoTroll 2 manoeuvring system, the AutoTroll Firefighting function for thruster applications and a condition monitoring solution designed to support predictive maintenance and improve operational reliability.

Visitors can also experience ZF’s Hybrid Controls Simulator, demonstrating how transmissions, control systems, shaftlines, propellers and software are integrated into hybrid propulsion systems. The display is complemented by a retractable azimuth thruster that can operate both as a full azimuth unit and as a tunnel thruster.

According to ZF, its portfolio supports customers throughout the entire vessel lifecycle, from system design and integration to global service and digital solutions.
