WISTA opens up global network for companies

WISTA International is introducing a new Associate Membership for companies and institutions. The aim is to strengthen cooperation in the maritime industry and promote inclusion worldwide.

The international WISTA Executive Committee met in London from April 17 to 19 for its annual mid-term meeting. The agenda focused on the role that partnerships and collaboration continue to play in driving change in the maritime industry.

During the three-day program, the Executive Committee met with WISTA International partners, including the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS). Discussions focused on current and future collaborations, with a particular emphasis on raising awareness of the importance of inclusion in industry projects.

A key outcome of the mid-term meeting was the approval of the WISTA International Associate Membership. This new membership level is open to companies operating in the shipping, trade, logistics, energy and related sectors that support WISTA’s mission but do not meet the requirements for regular membership in a national WISTA association.

“We are pleased to announce that WISTA International will soon be accepting Associate Members. This will give companies and institutions the opportunity to become part of the global WISTA community and take an active role in our worldwide network,” said Elpi Petraki, President of WISTA International.

“Our goal is to empower people to realize their full potential. By expanding our membership, we can continue to effect tangible change at both the individual and corporate level.”

In his opening speech at the WISTA International reception at the IMO, Secretary General Arsenio Dominguez also emphasized the importance of collaboration.

“It is a joint effort, not a change that will happen overnight. But the more we have these conversations and the better the understanding grows of what we are trying to achieve, the more our message will be heard – and the more change we can bring about. Thank you for your continued support for WISTA and the IMO. Please stay engaged, highlight the positive developments, but also address the areas where we still need to make more progress.”
